King Arthur Baking Company Joins How2Recycle Labeling Program

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, November 12, 2020 — How2Recycle is excited to add King Arthur Baking Company, the country’s premier baking resource, to the How2Recycle membership mix. As a 100% employee-owned, certified B Corp, King Arthur Baking Company believes in creating a more sustainable future and is always striving to do better.

Earlier this year, King Arthur Baking Company kicked off a portfolio-wide packaging audit to determine packaging adjustments necessary to improve overall sustainability. While the mainstay of their offerings, 5lb signature flours, are packaged in widely recyclable paper, they still have work to do across other current and future product lines. At the highest level, the company’s packaging goals include improvements in overall recyclability, increased levels of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, and communication of recyclability.

Within the next few years, How2Recycle will help to clearly communicate the recyclability of their packaging across all current and future products. Shoppers will first see the How2Recycle label featured on King Arthur Baking’s 3lb specialty flours, as well as two new items - King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour - 8 lb and King Arthur Unbleached Bread Flour - 8 lb. How2Recycle is looking forward to working closely with the King Arthur Baking Company team to educate all who interact with their baking products, from their own team members to consumers, about this next step in their journey of recyclability.

“As a mission-driven company, this partnership aligns well with our continued efforts to improve packaging sustainability and reduce waste,” says Suzanne McDowell, Vice President of Sustainability and Social Responsibility at King Arthur Baking Company. “We’re excited to partner with How2Recycle to better inform our consumers of the recyclability of our packaging and to further drive sustainability innovation throughout our supply chain.”
